Tuesday March 7 2017 THE HEAVENS DECLARE THE GLORY OF GOD

Tuesday March 7 2017   THE HEAVENS DECLARE THE GLORY OF GOD

It is a challenge to take a verse or chapter from the Bible and ponder on what each Scripture speaks to me.  Those ponderings become my Scripture poetry.  I take a verse and read each coupling, then add my thoughts as to what I perceive them to mean.  In no way is it my intent to change the Word of God, add to it, or distract from the meaning set forth by God.  I do it for my pleasure to increase the value of what those words are speaking to me.  I hope you enjoy the poems I write using Scripture as my inspiration.

Remember the red ink highlights quotes from the Bible and the black ink are my thoughts.  It is fun to come up with meaning that will harmonize and rhyme with the words I read from the scripture.  I hope you enjoy the poem I wrote today.  Following the poem is the full chapter of Psalm 19 so you can read it in its entirety.

This morning as I was saying goodbye to a friend on the phone I asked her to give me a poem topic.  My friend Lana quoted what would become the title of the poem (Psalms 19:1).  I wrote it down, and then the poem was born.  Thanks Lana.

THE HEAVENS DECLARE THE GLORY OF GOD

“The heavens declare the glory of God:

The skies proclaim the work of His hands.”  Psalm 19:1

And when we listen in His presence

We hear what His sky commands.

“Day after day they pour forth speech:

Night after night they reveal knowledge.”  Psalm 19:2

And our hearts must be open to receive

Lest we succumb to folly.

“They have no speech, they use no words;

No sound is heard from them.”  Psalm 19:3

God’s voice delivered in silence.

What the heavens speak is from Him.

“Yet their voice goes out into all the earth,

Their words to the ends of the world.”  Psalm 19:4

Like beautiful jewels being delivered

In mass being unfurled.

“In the heavens God has pitched

A tent for the sun.”  Psalm 19:4

Contented mass of glorious light

It’s work is not done.

“It is like a bridegroom coming out of his chamber

Like a champion rejoicing to run his course,”  Psalm 19:5

Sated, calm, and invigorated

Energy with such force.

“It rises at one end of the heavens

And makes it circuit to the other.

Nothing is deprived of its warmth,” Psalm 19:6

As God’s Words over the earth hover.

“The law of the Lord is perfect

Refreshing the soul.”  Psalm 19:7

So to walk in righteousness

Should be our purposed goal.

“The precepts of the Lord are right

Giving joy to the heart.”  Psalm 19:8

What better way is there

That our morning we start?

“The commands of the Lord are radiant

Giving light to the eyes.”  Psalms 19:8

Casting rays of hope to the world,

With a joy that never dies.

“The fear of the Lord is pure,

Enduring forever.”  Psalm 19:9

Which ensures everlasting life

Never to be severed.

“The decrees of the Lord are firm,

And all of them are righteous.”  Psalm 19:9

And walking in His Commandments,

To accomplish is our must.

“They are more precious than gold,

Than much pure gold.”  Psalm 19:10

And must be passed on and on

As God’s story continually told.

“They are sweeter than honey,

Than honey from the honeycomb”.  Psalm 19:10

And should dwell continually in our heart

And never just on loan.

“By them your servant is warned;

In keeping them there is great reward.”  Psalm 19:11

And of utmost importance

In your heart they should be stored.

“But who can discern their own errors?

Forgive my hidden faults.”  Psalm 19:12

That I will not sin against God

And all sin in my life will halt.

“Keep your servant also from willful sins;

May they not rule over me.”  Psalm 19:13

That as my heart hears Your Word

So from sin I am totally free.

“Then I will be blameless,

Innocent of great transgression.”  Psalm 19:13

That when Your heavens declare Your glory

My heart is a heart of confession.

“May these words of my mouth

And this meditation of my heart

Be pleasing in Your sight,”  Psalm 19:14

As each morning I start.

“Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer.”  Psalm 19:14

Thank You God for Your Word.

 Thank You God for friends that give me suggestions for poems to write.

 Thank You too Lord for opening my heart to receive the words that come to me.

And thank You too for all the couches I have been privileged to sleep on.

HAVE A GREAT AFTERNOON AND GOD BLESS EACH ONE WHO READS THESE WORDS

Psalm 19  Holy Bible New International Version

“For the director of music. A psalm of David.

The heavens declare the glory of God;
    the skies proclaim the work of his hands.
Day after day they pour forth speech;
    night after night they reveal knowledge.
They have no speech, they use no words;
    no sound is heard from them.
Yet their voice goes out into all the earth,
    their words to the ends of the world.
In the heavens God has pitched a tent for the sun.
    It is like a bridegroom coming out of his chamber,
    like a champion rejoicing to run his course.
It rises at one end of the heavens
    and makes its circuit to the other;
    nothing is deprived of its warmth.

The law of the Lord is perfect,
    refreshing the soul.
The statutes of the Lord are trustworthy,
    making wise the simple.
The precepts of the Lord are right,
    giving joy to the heart.
The commands of the Lord are radiant,
    giving light to the eyes.
The fear of the Lord is pure,
    enduring forever.
The decrees of the Lord are firm,
    and all of them are righteous.

10 They are more precious than gold,
    than much pure gold;
they are sweeter than honey,
    than honey from the honeycomb.
11 By them your servant is warned;
    in keeping them there is great reward.
12 But who can discern their own errors?
    Forgive my hidden faults.
13 Keep your servant also from willful sins;
    may they not rule over me.
Then I will be blameless,
    innocent of great transgression.

14 May these words of my mouth and this meditation of my heart
    be pleasing in your sight,
    Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer.”
