I’M SO GLAD THERE ARE WORDS

If there were no such things as words,

Then our voice would not be heard.

Nor our vision in silence read

All the laws we must heed.

 

But I suppose there would be no laws

Nor a description to express the flaws.

No ballot on which to vote.

And absolutely no one to quote.

 

A silent world, no radio or TV,

No description to describe you or me.

How would our brains think?

How with others would we link?

 

Is that how an animal exists?

Living by instinct and with gist?

Would we still live as cave men?

Or with animals in their den?

 

Just think what things would not be,

Without communication, no ideas to see.

In a world without words we have silence,

What’s a party without sounds of vibrance?

 

But we are fortunate to have words

Many languages of sounds heard.

And many thoughts come interloping in

Bringing words, thought’s best friends.

 

And I’m so glad to speak them out

And I’ve many to say without a doubt.

And I am so glad there are words

So all my poems can be heard!

 

NOTE:  Tired blank brain tonight so I had to really think hard to come up with enough words to write my poem for today!
