A DAY OF MEMORIES

A day of memories

Lived with my eyes.

Photos of the past

Do not lie.

The days of film

Garnering truth,

No computer photo-shopping

Lines to smooth.

All the little newborns

Who brought great joy,

Through their precious lives

As little girls and boys.

Yet passage of time

Tells a different story,

About lives of destitution

That lacks all glory.

Hopes and dreams

Each had for self,

Yet so many goals

Left on the shelf.

Both joy and death

Have left their mark

Through the years lived,

No matter how stark.

Yet smiles prevail

On printed faces,

Though trouble abounds

In so many places.

And life goes on,

New generations born.

The elderly die,

And hearts are torn.

And in just a blink

Of the proverbial eye,

The ones who are old

Are you and I.

While creating an album

Of both the living and dead,

Thoughts run rampant

Of words once said.

I remember each face,

I still hear their voice.

Though longtime now gone

Their memories are foist.

As I arrange on paper

Faces staring at me,

With each new layout

More faces I see.

The photos are silent

But I still hear the clamor,

Of those I have loved

My memory hammers.

And page by page

Layouts are accomplished

And the pile of photos

Is slowly demolished.

Hour upon hour

The time passes by,

And I am so engrossed

That time seems to fly.

I abruptly come to the end

Of my fun and play.

My creativity is done…

Until another day!

My neck will relax,

My back will mend,

And tomorrow once again,

I’ll BE SORTING RELATIVES AND FRIENDS.
