Sunday Sabbath October 2 2016 SUNDAY SABBATH POEM FROM ROMANS
IT IS GOD’S WORD THAT TEACHES US
Kathleen Martens
October 2, 2017
Another Sabbath come and gone
To worship and glorify the Lord.
To be one in the body
To listen and hear God’s Word.
A time of reflection of what is truth,
With teaching for our hearts.
And the Sabbath of the week
Revitalizes a new week to start.
So I close this beautiful day
Full of joy to overflowing,
With my spirit full of peace
Because my God is all-knowing.
And our God is the God of Love
Who teaches us how to forgive.
So that we can be forever whole
He also teaches us how to live.
Our love to others must be sincere.
We are to hate evil that abounds,
And do good to all others,
And devotion is easily found.
Honor one another above self,
And never lack in zeal,
Always keep your spiritual fervor,
Because on our spirit we have a seal.
Serve the Lord with all your heart
And always be joyful in hope.
Even through the greatest affliction
Faithful prayer will help you cope.
Be certain to share with God’s people
And give to those in need.
Never forget to practice hospitality,
And you will be blessed indeed.
Bless those who persecute you,
Be certain you do not curse.
Rejoice with those who rejoice
And always put God first.
And when you know others mourn
Mourn whenever they mourn.
Live in harmony each and every day,
And do not live in scorn.
Be not proud of yourself
But rather associate with all men.
Never be self conceited
Lest you live in sin.
Never repay evil for evil,
Be careful to do what’s right!
Do not cause another to stumble;
Rather be their shining light.
And always do what is in your power
To live at peace with everyone.
And never take revenge on others,
But follow the steps of God’s son.
Allow God to be the judge
For these words God has spoken:
“It is mine to avenge, I will repay.”
It is only God who can fix the broken.
So if your enemy is hungry
Give him food to eat.
And if your enemy is thirsty
Offer him something to drink.
And never be overcome by evil
But overcome evil with good.
Just like Jesus who walked this earth
And has stood where you have stood.
The above poem was inspired from God’s word. Poetic license has been taken for flow of words and rhyming purposes.
“Romans 12:9-21 New International Version
Love in Action
9 Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good. 10 Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves. 11 Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord. 12 Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer. 13 Share with the Lord’s people who are in need. Practice hospitality.
14 Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse. 15 Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn. 16 Live in harmony with one another. Do not be proud, but be willing to associate with people of low position. Do not be conceited.
17 Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everyone. 18 If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone. 19 Do not take revenge, my dear friends, but leave room for God’s wrath, for it is written: “It is mine to avenge; I will repay,” says the Lord. 20 On the contrary:
“If your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink.
In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head.”
21 Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.”
GOD BLESS YOU ON THIS SABBATH EVENING
